HALL WARDEN’S MESSAGE

You are welcome to Oguaa Hall, the first fruit of the University of Cape Coast. This platform is meant to connect past and present residents of Oguaa Hall, known as Premiers. It also serves as a platform to the general public to seek out information about the hall.

Oguaa Hall which is located at the South Campus (Old Site) is the oldest of all the ten (10) Halls of Residence at the University of Cape Coast. The Hall derived its name from the traditional name of Cape Coast which is ‘Oguaa’. It is worth acknowledging that, University of Cape Coast naturally means “Oguaa Suapong”. With the quest to maintain and consolidate the premiership position of the Hall as residence in the University, it always strives to live by the motto of the Hall – “Nyimdzii, Korye na Asomdwe”, which literally means Knowledge, Unity and Peace. The Hall is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, secure, nurturing and learning environment that is conducive for academic pursuits, personal growth and development while fostering a sense of community, civic responsibility and appreciation of diversity. 

Oguaa Hall comprises seven (7) long blocks ascending a hill which gives her beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean with its golden beach. Currently, the Hall provides residential accommodation to about 1,122 students officially for both sexes while about 3,200 more are affiliated as non-resident members.

The governing body of the hall is the council, which is responsible to the full body of premiers. Students’ affairs are handled by students own elected government headed by the JCRC President while the general administration of the hall is under the warden who is assisted by the senior hall tutor and tutors. Hall tutors and staff play a key role in the development of principles and activities that broaden your skills, knowledge and horizons.

The hall has a crest designed to bring out the principal features of Oguaa. Its colors are yellow and green with a crab as its emblem.

We have a very conscientious team of hall staff. They take care of the day to day running of the hall facilities and equipment as well as the safety and security of residents.

The hall management aims to give students the best experience in the hall by keeping them safe and supported and by promoting their participation and ownership of an equal and responsible communal society. 

Staff and hall tutors of the hall are very diligent and hardworking thus creating a suitable environment for studies, social opportunities and communal living underpinned by good support.
