Junior Common Room Council

 

Junior Common Room Council (JCRC) refers all the student body in Oguaa Hall. The JCR is led by The Junior Common Room Committee headed by the JCR President. The JCRC are elected by the members of the Junior Common room (JCR) to steer the affairs of the JCR in the hall. They form the JCRC executives and are accorded the function of executing their policies as mandated by the constitution of the Committee.

The Secretariat Committee is a vital part of the Office of the Secretary in the JCR, overseeing and implementing decisions.

 

Role and Responsibilities

The Secretariat Committee acts as the central administrative body of the secretarial office, ensuring the smooth operation of the office.

Its primary responsibilities include:

- Organizing events: Coordinating workshops, presentations, and meetings to facilitate discussion and decision-making.

- Reporting and documentation: Preparing and submitting reports to the relevant authorities, such as the Management Committee,the president or Hall master/warden.

 

The committee,headed by Agyei Sandra Amponsah,the secretary of the 2024/2025 administration has been able to keep up the good works of the office,over the years.

This includes the continuous distribution of the AvAD initiative.

A Vocabulary A Day was a remarkable initiative, implemented by the secretary of the 2023/2024 administration, Jessica Aba Kumah.

And it continues today.

 

Also,the committee added the public display of education and knowledge in eye health and wellbeing, through the incumbent secretary as she pursues her degree in Optometry.

She believes that her office can be used to educate the affiliates and entire school community on basic facts on the eye.

 

The committee meets at least twice and any other time if it's an emergency.

So far so good and more remarkable initiatives to be implemented!

It continues to thrive on the land of knowledge,unity and peace.

The Diaspora and Alumni Relations Committee is led by the Oguaa SRC Representatives, who also serve as Public Relations Officers for the hall. This committee acts as a liaison between:

 

1. Oguaa Hall Alumni and the JCRC

2. Affiliates of Oguaa Hall in the diaspora (hostels) and Hall management/JCRC

 

By bridging these connections, the committee fosters strong relationships and facilitates communication between these groups.

To be a  connected community of Oguaa Hall Alumni and students, upholding the hall's values of academic excellence, leadership, and premiership.

 

Mission Statement:

To foster lifelong connections among Oguaa Hall Alumni, diaspora affiliates, and the JCRC, promoting mutual support, knowledge sharing, and community development, in line with the hall's mission to promote academic success, personal growth, and social responsibility.

                                                             LIBRARY COMMITTEE REPORT

Introduction

The Oguaa Hall Library Committee serves as the academic wing of the hall, playing a pivotal role in fostering a culture of learning, intellectual discourse, and academic excellence. The committee oversees the management and enhancement of the hall's libraries, facilitates academic events, and supports critical thinking through debate and public speaking engagements.

Library Management

The committee is responsible for maintaining and improving the hall’s two libraries:

· Hybrid Library (Block A): A modern resource center that integrates both digital and physical academic materials, ensuring easy access to a wide range of scholarly resources.

· Traditional Library (Block E): A dedicated space for research and study, housing an extensive collection of textbooks, reference materials, and other academic resources essential for students.

Academic Programs and Initiatives

The Library Committee organizes annual academic programs designed to enhance students’ intellectual growth and academic success. These include:

· Academic Summit: A flagship event that brings together students, lecturers, and academic professionals to discuss pertinent academic and career-related topics.

· Interblocks Quiz Competition: A knowledge-based contest that fosters academic competitiveness and teamwork among hall residents.

Oguaa Hall Debate Society

A key subcommittee under the Library Committee, the Oguaa Hall Debate Society is dedicated to nurturing critical thinking, eloquence, and persuasive argumentation. The society organizes and participates in debate competitions at both the hall and inter-hall levels:

· Milan’s Debate Championship (Interblocks Debate Tournament): An annual internal competition aimed at developing public speaking and debate skills among Oguaa Hall residents.

· Interhalls Debate Championship: The society actively represents the hall in this prestigious competition, where Oguaa Hall has earned multiple trophies in both the Public Speaking and Debate categories.

Conclusion

The Oguaa Hall Library Committee remains committed to providing quality academic resources, fostering a culture of intellectual excellence, and promoting critical thinking through debates and academic competitions. By continuously improving its programs and facilities, the committee ensures that Oguaa Hall remains a hub of academic distinction within the university community.

 

 

 

ANNUAL PROGRAMMES MARKED BY THE HALL

  1. OGUAA HALL WEEK CELEBRATION

This is annual celebration by Hall Council & Management, JCRC and entire students’ affiliates to mark the number of years and the Hall’s activities. This gargantuan annual event usually takes stage in the month of March in the second semester from Wednesday and ends on Sunday. Areas of activities include Education, Entertainment, Sports, and Socialization among others. Every year, a Hall Week planning Committee is set up by the JCRC to draw a detailed program to commemorate the week-long celebration.

2.  THE DIASPORA HOME COMING CELEBRATION

Diaspora Home Coming Celebration is annual programme organized by Hall Council and Management in collaboration with the JCRC for all Non- Residents Affiliates of the Hall. This well patronized celebration by all continuing students affiliated to the Premier Hall, was initiated due to the University policy In-out-out-out.

  1. This annual programme always aimed at building strong Diaspora relation and coordination with a sense of belongingness and responsibility in building our noble Hall as the best outstanding Hall in Africa.

The main objectives include:

  • To Have interaction with those in the Diaspora

  • To make them have a sense of belonging

  • Get them closer to the Hall Management

  • To give them a platform to channel all welfare issues to the Hall Council and Management



3.  ALUMNI HOME COMING

The Executives of the Alumni Association every year organises home coming and breakfast meeting during hall week celebration. This annual program is met to bring all alumni across the country and beyond to participate in the hall’s activities and provide mentorship for affiliates who are still on campus. The meeting creates the opportunity for management, staff and students to deliberate on way forward for the building of the hall to higher height.
